The goal of this project was to create a distinctive logo for J&M, a construction business looking to promote themselves in a competitive market. J&M wanted a logo that conveyed approachability, reliability, and professionalism, assuring customers they could trust J&M with both large-scale projects and smaller renovations. Since the target audience consists primarily of homeowners, the logo needed to find balance by avoiding anything too masculine or feminine while appealing to a broad range of people. Additionally, J&M desired a modern, sporty design that reflected energy and forward-thinking. With these values in mind, the design team began by researching construction branding trends, sketching concepts, and curating mood boards inspired by typography, color, and graphic styles. The creative process started with rough ideas and then moved to refining them through multiple rounds of feedback. Multiple logo variations were presented, each aimed at balancing the business’s functional needs with an approachable aesthetic. After thoughtful consideration, the final logo was chosen. It combines elements of construction, with a sleek, modern design that reflects the company’s identity. The finished logo powerfully represents J&M’s commitment to quality, professionalism, and trust, helping them stand out.

About The Program

Graphic design is about more than making things look good; it’s about using visual language to communicate ideas, solve problems, and connect with audiences. As the field has evolved, so has its scope. What was once defined primarily by print now includes branding systems, packaging, advertising, motion, digital media, and user experience.

We are proud students of Alexandria Technical & Community College. The college is located in Alexandria, Minnesota. We thrive in the Communication Design program, pushing our creativity to new heights every day. Collaborating with clients is an invaluable experience, and we are truly honored for the opportunity to bring ideas to life.
